FAQs
Tribesouk rugs are handcrafted across the country of Morocco. The biggest production is concentrated in the atlas mountains. This is where a large number of Berber Communities are settled.
They are a combination of wools and dyes used to form the intricate folk art designs, beautiful colors, and geometric patterns displayed on the rugs.
In the ancient times, Moroccan rugs were typically fashioned from pure sheep's wool, with pile heights and thicknesses varying by region. Those with thicker piles were tailored for the frigid Atlas Mountains, while lighter flatweaves were crafted to withstand the searing heat of the Sahara desert.
By taking good care of your rugs and cleaning them regularly, they can last for many years. Dirt buildup can damage the fibers, making the rug age faster and become weaker. We suggest getting the rug professionally cleaned every five years.
Here are some simplified instructions for caring for your rug:
- When your rug arrives, unpack it to minimize creases and marks from being rolled up. It might take a few days for any creases to disappear.
- For cleaning:
- If you can, take the rug outside and shake it well every two weeks.
- If the rug is too big or you don't have outdoor space, vacuum it once a week using a low-power setting and a flat nozzle attachment. Avoid using a vacuum with a brush or rotating motor-head.
- For rugs with long fibers, vacuum in the direction of the fibers and lift the nozzle after each pass.
- You can also flip the rug and vacuum the other side to remove dirt deep in the fibers.
- Rotate the rug every 3-6 months and remove furniture on top to prevent bacteria buildup in less used areas.
- If you spill something on the rug, spot clean it with water and mild soap, then dab it dry with a towel.
- Shedding is normal with natural wool fibers and should decrease within a few weeks. If you notice any loose knots, don't pull them; just cut them off.
- Avoid placing the rug in direct sunlight to prevent color fading over time.
